It's a pleasure to meet you and I hope you're having a wonderful day.
While you'll find a geeky assortment of artwork on my site, you'll also see historical and multicultural pieces, random and weird designs... basically whatever tickles my fancy at the time. I am fascinated by a multitude of things and try to research and reference as much as possible, even in my fantasy pieces. I have done a blank comic cover based off both Hamlet, and Akira, and pieces from Greek Mythology and Japanese lore. Basically, there should be a few pieces to surprise you. But I can say that usually my pieces boil down to storytelling. They tend to center on people, their relationships, emotions, and connections. I am amazed by the different layers that can be within a person, both the sides we show the world and those we keep hidden, the beautifully polished and the dark and grim. I think I have to be an artist because psychology, anthropology, archaeology, mythology... all of them intrigue me too much that it's the only way to have a little bit of all of them in my life. I live to learn new things and love to convey that knowledge in my art. So come in and admire the work, look for hidden depth and meaning, and I hope that you find something that truly speaks to you.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
I've come to realize that inspiration can be found in practically anything. I can see or hear something, and an image will pop in my head and stick with me. I keep a blank sketchbook handy to scribble them down. They tend to start as one thing and then progress, and compound, and transform until it's a fully flourished idea. I'm very into comics, but also history and different cultures, because they basically boil down to being stories as well, once you get past the dates and statistics. My main goal in my work is to tell a story and have it contained into a single page. I hope that you can connect with the characters I've portrayed and their circumstances, even if it's only a single piece.
I primarily use Copic Markers on Bristol Board, and then add extra depth in with colored pencils and other mediums. I'm a bit odd, in the fact that I hold my pencil differently than others. I actually clutch it in my right hand, with the tip coming out between my ring and pinky fingers. Even I'll admit it looks strange, but it's how I'm most comfortable writing and drawing. It does make it difficult to paint however. And so I found that I enjoy my markers the most, and the Copics blend and layer similar to watercolor. There is also less clean up involved, so that's a bonus.
Though I've drawn my whole life, my career itself is just starting, so I don't have nominations or awards, or even huge projects finished, for me to call a career highlight. I have had two portfolio reviews with a Marvel editor, and one with a rep from DC, which I was thrilled to get, just for the critiques and advice that they can give, but I am also still in contact with the Marvel editor in hopes that it will lead to a project with the company. So in a way, launching this site is my current career highlight, so far. I've worked many jobs and had my artwork on the side, but I'm finally taking the leap and devoting myself to my art. We shall see were this path leads and hope for the very best.
